15 classic TA websites re-hosted by TAUniverse

Thursday 13th September 2012 at PM by N72 35 comments last comment by graatz

Now that we have upgraded to a new server, we will be making various improvements and additions to the TAUniverse Network, including a new FileUniverse and a website for the TA Unofficial Patch. While neither of those are ready just yet, we do have a little surprise in the form of 15 classic Total Annihilation websites which have all been offline for years.

Some of these are old TAUniverse sites that were cut during a previous server downgrade, while others are originally from Planet Annihilation or TA Designers. The websites have been fixed up as much as possible; some are in perfect condition while others have some missing pages, images, or downloads. All of the sites will remain as TAUniverse hosted sites for as long as we are online 15 years and counting, in case you re wondering.

Here s the full list of restored websites:AfterMath Design - A once-popular unit and map design group.

Armored Typhoon - Home of Armored Typhoon, a modern-day ground combat mini conversion mod.

Final Frontier - Home of The Final Frontier, a full-scale conversion mod that transforms TA into a space combat game.

Imperial Authority - Home of Imperial Authority, a Star Wars conversion mod.

Monolithic Incorporated - Home of the Rhyoss race mod and the Orpheriun 3 conversion mod.

Mynn - Home of the Mynn race mod, originally one of TA s oldest and most controversial projects because it was sold for profit, later made free and resurrected by a new group.

Quantum Design - Home to utilities such as TA: Mutation, the TA Data Viewer, and 3DO Builder v2.1.

Raven TA - Home of the Raven TA Compilation Pack, a unit pack mod.

Star Wars TA - Home of SWTA, the most popular and comprehensive Star Wars conversion mod for TA.

TA Arsenal Network - Home to the Evolva unit models and several generations of TA units in French..

TA Units Compilation Pack - Home of TAUCP, a large unit pack mod.

The Lost Legacy - Home of The Lost Legacy, one of the most complete race mods.

UberHack - Home of UberHack, the most popular classic TA mod.

Warhammer TA - Home of Warhammer TA, a conversion mod based on Warhammer 40,000.

World Domination - Home of World Domination, a comprehensive conversion mod that brings TA to a modern-day setting.

In addition, all of the old hosted project forums available in the Boneyard section of the forum listing have been unlocked for posting.

The transition to our new server is now complete.

My apologies for the downtime - we experienced some technical difficulties when transferring the sites from our old server but everything should be sorted now.

Please let me know if you experience or notice any problems with any of the sites. If you own or run a hosted site, please check it over to make sure everything is there and working as it should be.

Thank you to everyone who donated to help me pay for this new server; it is much appreciated.

Note to Firefox users: Upon upgrading to Firefox 15.0 you may notice the border images disappear from the TAU homepage this already happens with the latest Internet Explorer. This will be fixed soon.

Update: We are still working through some issues with the new server. You may notice strange behaviour with the some of the sites until everything is ironed out.

News has broken of a possible new expansion to the constellation of releases which take the much-venerated Total Annihilation as their chief inspiration.

Enter Jon Mavor and Steve Thompson, two leading developers at Uber Entertainment. These two gentlemen and their team have great credentials, having worked on the Total Annihilation, Dungeon Siege, and Supreme Commander franchises as well as other renowned titles in the gaming community. Their new vision is for a brand-new RTS game called PLANETARY ANNIHILATION.

This prospective new game purports to bring TA-style gameplay to an interstellar level, featuring short, tactical games for the online elite, or massive, cosmos-spanning, strategic slugfests with some of your closest friends.

Of course, creating a new game and hopefully building a franchise in the 21st century is tough, and it may not even be possible without reaching out to the would-be owners of said game. Which is why the Uber Entertainment team have opened up the doors to the overall process, and are asking for your thoughts - and your pledges - to help get Planetary Annihilation up and running.

Uber Entertainment have in just a handful of days reached half of their fund-pledging goal on Kickstarter, and invite you to view further details on this project at the Planetary Annihilation website, and to provide your thoughts on the Uber Entertainment forums. In addition, there s a very lively discussion going here on our forum as well.

With the much appreciated assistance of community members DoomBowser, PlasmoidThunder, Gamma, ARM-Y, Zippo, Wotan, Stchurdak, and DannyU and relentless effort, the Tortoise Pack is here. The newest 3rd-party Total Annihilation unit creation group - Total Annihilation Supremely Epic Creation Team s tech level 1 Tortoises are officially available to download on UnitUniverse. These sturdy Tortoises form a completely new technology line for the battle-hardened Core Army and counters the maneuverable Spiders of the Arm.

That s not all. Work on the advanced tech level 2 Tortoises is well under way; give your feedback and suggestions on the Tortoise Pack in this community discussion, and we will incorporate your thoughts in the next step in the evolution of the Tortoises.

What are you waiting for. Download the Tortoise Pack or visit TA SECT s website today.

Help test the upcoming Total Annihilation v4.0 Patch

Tuesday 17th April 2012 at AM by N72 88 comments last comment by gicronin

The Total Annihilation v4.0 Patch is on its way.

That s right, help test the upcoming, comprehensive TA v4.0 Patch by downloading the v3.9.xx series of beta patches, available at the beta testing thread on the forum. The beta patch is basically feature-complete, but there are a couple of issues that need to be fixed and it needs to be thoroughly tested before a final v4.0 Patch is released.

But what is the TA v4.0 Patch. It s a comprehensive patch that adds many groundbreaking new features to TA, some which have been dreamed about for over a decade, as well as replaces all existing crucial game updates. v4.0 is intended to replace v3.1 as the de facto version of the game and is the only necessary thing that needs to be installed other than Total Annihilation and the expansion packs. The v4.0 patch is NOT a gameplay mod, and does not alter the game balancing in any way.

What s included. You ll have to check out the beta testing thread for the full details, but here s a sampling of some of the features:TA Demo 1.0.0.666 - replaces all old versions of TA Demo and backwards compatible with existing recordings.

Official Cavedog Updates - includes the v3.1 content, the 6 downloadable units, and 16 downloadable maps.

Fully NoCD Including Music - The game music now plays from the game folder instead of the CD, making the game fully NoCD.

Fixed Pathfinding - Perhaps the 1 wish of TA players, the pathfinding is fixed, meaning it no longer degenerates as the in-game unit count increases. Groups of thousands of units move with ease and complex maps are now playable.

Increased Unit and Weapon ID limits - Another possible entry for 1 most requested feature, the number of unit and weapon IDs has been increased from 512/256 to 4096 each note that the weapon ID limit increase is currently single player only, but will be supported in multiplayer once the Replayer has been further updated to support it.

New Interface Upgrades - Convenient new features such as double-click selection, unit selection filters, idle factory locator, viewing players actual line of sight while watching a recording or spectating, and much more.

Engine Improvements - Alt TAB crashes are fixed, several cheats are blocked, sound cutoffs are fixed, particle effects are improved, maximum unit size is increased, and much more.

Map Features - All known map features are included, allowing you to play on possibly every map ever created.

Improved Game Settings - Game settings are expanded while also made hassle-free, and a configuration tool/game launcher is included.

Unified Experience - The game is standardized for all players and a new framework for conflict-free, properly installed mods is created. The TA Demo Recorder is now configured automatically and links to WarZone and GameRanger are integrated into the in-game menu.

Future Updates - After the v4.0 Patch is released, even more updates are planned, with exciting new in-development features such as a further updated Recorder/Replayer and large pop-up minimap. TA will now even automatically notify you of patch updates and you can update the game straight from your desktop.

Compatible With All Versions - The patch is compatible with both the original CD version and the digital download versions GOG.com, Impulse, etc. of TA.

And More - Check out the readme for the full, detailed list of features.

All these features are included in the near-complete beta patch, however, remember that the current releases are meant for beta testing and there are a couple of known issues which will be fixed before the final release. Of course, there might be other issues, so we need everyone to get this patch thoroughly tested and report their results both positive and negative - lack of comments due to everything working as expected doesn t help. to the forum. For best results, back up your game folder and install the patch to a clean install meaning TA expansions v3.1 patch, NOTHING else, and be sure to carefully read the readme file.

1. Install TA if installing from CD, choose Multiplayer Spawn, if GOG.com/Impulse/Other Downloaded version do the full install

2. Install expansion packs already included in GOG.com/Impulse/Other Downloaded versions

4. Play no configuration needed; replayer, resolution, sound/music, etc. are all set up automatically.

Forget everything you know and read the readme carefully. Common files like TADR 0.99b2, TADR 1.0.0.545 update, McnTerra-NS, CD Crack, extra Cavedog units/maps, expanded battleroom/map selection GUI, xpoy s ddraw.dll updates, unit limit patches, map features packs, and the NoCD Music Patch should no longer be used. Don t worry though, the patch won t conflict with these things and will back up any detected old stuff and restore on uninstall, though a backup/clean install is still recommended.

Mods must be installed after the beta patch to function correctly and must not replace TotalA.exe they can replace rev31.gp3. Currently, only mods that launch via TotalA.exe will benefit from the patch, meaning race mods that use custom exe are not affected. There may be various other issues with old mods as well. As explained in the beta testing thread, all existing mods will eventually be converted to the new format and made compatible with the patch.

Total Mayhem Beta 6.42 Released.

Sunday 4th March 2012 at PM by gamma 23 comments last comment by Doombowser

Here it is folks The newest version of the epic mod known as Total Mayhem.

The stars of beta 6.4 are the new long-range rapid-fire kbots Arm Shiva and Core Defiler. Many legs and many barrels, with scripting that allows for tilting of the legs on slopes while the turret stays level, and legs that stay still while the body rocks when firing the long-range cannon They are a sight to behold.

Loads of tweaks have been done, and new pics for lots of units as seen in this newspost. See the comments for more detail on what has been changed.

The MAJOR thing to note is that the install has been greatly simplified:

- all data files have been combined into one rev31.gp3

- original 3.1 patch data has been included so you don t need to keep the original file in your TA folder anymore.

Download the new version here - 14Mb, TOTALM_b642.zip.

there is also mirrors here at ModDb, and here at 4shared

Note: BUGFIX RELEASE - updated to Beta 6.42 -see this post for details.

Looking for help installing or getting it going. Please go to the Total Mayhem help and support topic.

Pictured in the above ingame screenshots is the Arm Shiva firing, with a few other Arm support units, and in the second screenshot is the Core Defiler firing, while another Defiler is being built in the Gantry behind it.

TA Guide: Map Pics Massive Mission Maps Database Added.

TABP:TA Guide - Map Pics Massive Mission Maps Database Added.

Christmas has come and gone, but as tradition dictates I have once again spent a few hours on adding some more content to this old game. This time I have focused on the single player missions that Cavedog so painstakingly prepared. I ve added screen shots of the complete mission maps, the victory screens where applicable, and rudimentary victory conditions as scripted.

On the back of the mission maps development I ve completely recoded the multi-player maps database. I ve added map screen shots of them as well 1/16 scale, with the exception of a few bigger maps.

Below is a fine example of Cavedog map-making with their famous Core Contingency map Cavedog Links Country Club 9 hole golf course in all its 1/16 scale glory.

Also added are comprehensive map and mission notes.

I ve also applied some minor fixes about the place such as:The TA Guides General unit page LOS values have been returned to default data values. This assumes the McnTerra-NS.ufo custom AI and LOS patch, or another LOS patch, is used

Fixed the TA Guides Resource Model section s metal page where the Reclaiming rocks section was a duplicate of the Reclaiming wrecks section Oops. There s now a nice picture of PD instead There s obviously more work to come on these pages.

TA guide unit, map and mission tabs reformatted from html to CSS and stronger use of CSS throughout the site as it develops.

Typo in TA guide unit analysis page that caused a database error message has been fixed.

Spell checked the entire site :0

Removed comments tabs until I can find some suitable agent for this.

Added missing Luschious Cavedog DL map to map pages an unusual map in that all feature data is in the. ota text file instead of the map itself. Also added it to downloads section.

TA: Escalation Beta 5.0 is here at last.

NOTE. There was a minor bug causing the Arm Nomad to blow up when taking off from factory mode. The issue has been fixed, but you will need to re-download Beta 5.0. Please follow the link below.

Are you ready for more units, more explosions, and most of all, more games.. If you are, you ve come to the right place. TA:Escalation TAESC continues and expands the eternal war between the Arm and Core and brings you the quality and content you would expect from an official release.

TAESC delivers over 75 new Cavedog quality units from the minute scavenger bots to unprecedented experimental engines of war. If that is not enough, we have expanded and redone the GUI, added top-notch explosions of every size, and developed new gameplay concepts including mass teleportation and transports, configurable omni intel, unit upgrades, mobile factories and surfacable subs, and even adjacency bonuses for many resource units. Further, we have rebalanced and refined nearly every unit and tested them over thousands of games online from players of every skill level to ensure a nearly endless variety of strategies to wipe out your enemies.

If you are prepared to escalate your TA game to the next level then get moving Commander.
